MONDAY MOODS

NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED

Any one who knows me knows this is one of my mottos.  I have become more adventurous in my older age and I try new things more often now.

Oh, by the way.  This is Debbie.  I know that you expected Amy today – a really good tasting recipe or one of her delightful recounts of her life and mishaps.  But alas, you have me.  Amy is under the weather and also if you know me, I never pass up an opportunity to talk about myself. 🙂

Anyway, back to my adventure over the weekend.  I decided to try the recipe that every diet site on the Web was talking about – 2 ingredient bagels.  Sounds so easy.  Well, it’s not.

First, let me give you the recipe:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/3 cups plain Greek yogurt

pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients then knead it into a ball.  Cover the ball and let it stand for 30 minutes.

Roll the ball into a tube (as kids playing with play dough, we would say roll it into a snake).  Then cut the tube into 6 pieces.

Turn the oven on to 375 degrees.

Let the 6 pieces rest for 15 – 20 minutes (I put them into the round bagel shape and then let them rest).

Dip the little bagels into egg white wash and place on a backing sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes and then turn them over.

Bake another 10 minutes or until done.

If you want to put a topping on your bagel – like Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel topping – do so after the egg wash but before you pop them into the oven. 🙂

Looks pretty simple.  And yet I managed to screw something up.  I think I rolled my snake too much.  Or maybe I didn’t bake them long enough.  I don’t know but mine came out doughy and as heavy as a brick.  And I know I used way too much of the bagel topping.  But, none of that stopped me from eating them.  If you slap enough cream cheese on anything you can eat it. 🙂

By the way, the picture associated with this blog is NOT a picture of my bagels.  This is a pretty bagel.  Mine were not pretty. 🙂

Now to address my clean living items in this recipe.  I used unbleached organic all-purpose flour but I do know that I could have used gluten-free flour or whole wheat flour.  I also used organic cream cheese as well as organic Greek Yogurt.  I will try this again – just not any time soon.

Tomorrow be looking for Baby Step Tuesday.

Have a great Monday everybody.

Bye for now.

Debbie
