INTERESTING TIDBIT
Good Monday, all.
Just thought I would jump on here with a little tidbit that I found over the weekend. If you are trying to lose weight as well as live a healthier lifestyle, the enzyme AMPK is going to be important to you.
What??? In an article in For Women First, they recommend eating at least two servings a day of berries, apples, bell peppers, cherries, or onions daily. These types of produce contain anthocyanins and quercetin which are two phytonutrients that increase the production of AMPK (there’s that enzyme again).
They call AMPK a “master metabolic switch.” This means that AMPK determines whether incoming energy will be gathered and stored in fat cells or burned for fuel. The more AMPK the more the body uses calories to be burned for fuel plus it makes muscle cells more efficient at breaking down and utilizing glucose. The article goes on the say,
“The payoff: In a study published in the journal Obesity, subjects who increased their AMPK production lost 636% more abdominal fat and three times more visceral fat than those who didn’t.”
(636% is not a misprint on my part. That is the actual number in this article.)
Of course, if you are going to eat those items, try to buy organic fresh or frozen. You would hate to slow down the good these items can do by eating unhealthy or processed versions. 🙂
That’s all I’ve got for now.
